As a COLD weekend is sure to be on the horizon, I will keep my weekly notes brief. I am in the thick of report card writing, and while it is a very involved and time consuming task (hence the briefer blog post) it is an aspect of the job that I truly enjoy. I appreciate the time to reflect on the growth and learning of your children. I always feel like at the end of the process I know them all just a bit better!
We had a busy week complete with an introduction to the three branches of government in Social Studies. An abundance of practice making equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions and adding and subtracting unlike fractions in Math. This week in Writing, students started their second reflective writing piece, called Two Sides to Every Story, in which they got to pick a topic of interest to them and brainstormed both the positive and negative sides to these complex and debatable topics. It has been great to see their writing progress from our first reflective writing assignment to this current one. During Mega Words we finished up our first unit on constant suffixes and took an end of unit quiz. This week during Word Work we continued to work on becoming masters of parts of speech, expert editors and vocabulary wizards!
