And We're Off

Yay! What a GREAT first week. It was wonderful to return to school and welcome such a energetic, eager and sharp group of fifth graders. I am impressed with their curiosity and stamina ( they took in A LOT of information about the logistics of fifth grade)!

Over the long weekend take a few minutes to ask your child the following questions:

  • Building classroom community and a culture of welcome, respect and safety is very important. We discussed the idea of being seen, being heard and being valued, as well as using EMPATHY when interacting with one another. Ask your child what these ideas mean to them and why they are an important part of a healthy and safe community.
  • We made gooey, sticky Oobleck, ask you students about the PROPERTIES of Oobleck....well, first you might have to ask them what Oobleck is!
  • Ask your child to tell you about the three ways of writing BIG numbers we learned this week....Try writing a few big numbers in expanded form!
I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend. Have fun, be safe and enjoy time with family and friends.

Best,
Ms. Poling
