We had a great week in fifth grade. Students worked diligently preparing for their first chapter test in math. Their scores show their hard work and mastery of the concepts taught. We have had a strong start to Chapter 2, which focuses on Whole Number Multiplication and Division. Students took their monthly fact check this week. It was wonderful to see some improvements. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD AS THEY PRACTICE THEIR MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS AT HOME. THIS UNDERSTANDING IS VITAL FOR THEIR SUCCESS.
This week in science we investigated energy transfers. Ask our child what kinds of energy transfers are taking place when you hit a nail with a hammer! Students really enjoyed the chance to play with many simple toys as we deepened our understanding of how energy is transfers to make things happen. Spinning tops, Dominos, Yo-Yos and more made for a lively activity, allowing students to engage and see for themselves energy transfers at work. Ask you students what energy transfers were taking place when we played with Memory Wire ( a class favorite).
We are enjoying reading our class novel, Regarding the Fountain, students are working on closely reading, looking for clues to help solve the mystery and honing in on subtle text features that help them discern underlying meaning in what they read.
PLEASE look carefully through your child's Friday Folder and help them remember to bring it back to school on Monday.
