It's a Wrap!

Wow, that a wonderful first week we had. It has been great to spend time with your children, getting to know them and watching them so quickly and easily adjust to the newness of fifth grade.

Over the long weekend take a few minutes to ask your child the following questions:

  • While writing our classroom vision statements, we discussed the idea of being seen, being heard and being valued. Ask your child what these ideas mean to them and why they are an important part of a healthy and safe community.
  • Ask them about the PROPERTIES of Oobleck....well, first you might have to ask them what Oobleck is!
  • Ask your child to tell you about the three ways of writing BIG numbers we learned this week....Try writing a few big numbers in expanded form!
  • What was one highlight of the week and one thing they are looking forward to next week?
I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend. Have fun, be safe and enjoy time with family and friends.

Best,
Ms. Poling

And We Are off....Note to Parents About the First Day!

Wow.... what a busy day we had. From the moment your children arrived, the excitement and energy permeated the room. This is clearly a wonderful group of students, full of personality, kindness, deep friendship, passion and interested in a wide variety of things. It was so nice to see many parents this morning, thank you for stopping by and introducing yourselves.

  • During morning meeting we thought of FIVE words that described our summers. Common words were: Family, Travel, Water, Friends, Adventure, Sun, Boats
  • We went through classroom routines.
  • We did a scavenger hunt to locate important classroom materials.
  • We put our binders together.
  • Senorita Raquel visited for Spanish
  • Addition facts were testing......review subtraction facts tonight!
  • Students reunited with Mr. Schmuck and Mr. Woodward for P.E and Music.
