This week we...........
  • worked HARD learning the long division algorithm
  • dove into the rules for solving numeric expression using order of operations (these rules will be posted on the Learning Resource page of the blog)
  • wrapped up our energy unit on Thursday, with our chapter test (  earlier in the week we played a fun game of Jeopardy to help us prepare!)
  • worked on our Rube Goldberg machines, drawing detailed illustrations and writing clear explanations of the energy transfer used. This was a GREAT culminating project for the unit.
  • expanded our monthly personal response writing, delving into what makes a good friend.
  • survived indoor recess!
  • sang and hollered in the spirit of all things spooky and creepy, during our Halloween sing-a-long.

Coming up.........
  • We will begin our first Social Studies unit on Monday, GOVERNMENT!
  • We will continue to work on order of operations in math, moving on to more complex word problems, in which the students knowledge of larger number multiplication and division will be tested!
  • We will have a fact test on WEDNESDAY, November 6th.
  • We will begin our new personal response writing, the topic is:  Some people say that hardships make you stronger, explore this idea.  Students will be asked to discuss a hardship that they have experienced and how this has made them a stronger person and what they learned about themselves in the process.

Notes and Reminders.......
  • The Kindergarteners are collecting snow pants and warm gloves or mittens for children at the Cedar Riverside School in Minneapolis. Blake has had a long standing and powerful partnership with this the Cedar Riverside community. Teachers at Cedar Riverside would love the chance to take their students out into the snow this winter;  hiking, skating, skiing, etc. Without proper clothes, the students cannot have these important experiences. Please think about donating used snow pants, gloves or mittens. We are looking for sizes that would fit K-3rd grade students!
  • Crazy Hat day for fifth grade students will be Monday, November 25th!
