Farewell to a LONG and COLD Janurary!

Wow, January sure has been a force. I have been impressed with the student's fortitude and warm spirits. They have adapted to the short weeks, indoor recesses and adjusted schedules. We are working hard to accomplish all our curricular goals and everyone's flexibility and understanding have been wonderful.

Beth Daniel joined our class yesterday afternoon for her first visit. It was great to have her meet the students, observe a mini- math lesson and see a bit of independent work. She drove right in and the students were eager to meet her. She will be back for several whole days in the coming weeks.

Notes and News

January Reading Logs-Due FEBRUARY 3rd!

PLEASE check the PROJECT INFORMATION tab on the blog's home page for important Maniac Magee final project information and guidelines. The students will be working, primarily at home over the next week to complete their final reflection project on the book. The project objectives and directions/"nuts and bolts" have been shared with you all, as a way to support your student's work at home!

We will be having a simple Valentines celebration at school on February 14th. We will enjoy a small treat and students will have the chance to exchange Valentine cards with each other. Exchanging Valentines is not required, however we ask that if students decide to give Valentines, they include EVERYONE. If students would like to share Valentines with students in Ms. Robie's class they may, but the same rule applies, they must include everyone! A class list of our class and Ms. Robie's class is included in this week's Friday Folder

Next week will be our final week studying the human body( Muscles/Bones/Nerves).We will be taking our Human Body test in two parts the week of Feb 10-14. Part one will be given on Monday, Feb. 10 and part two on Wednesday, Feb. 12. You should be seeing your children studying at home, using their notes and text books.

I will begin testing all the fact groups again next week. I want to make sure that students are retaining their quick fact recall for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As I have shared many times before, quick and accurate recall of their facts 1-12 is an important component of math efficiency and success this year and beyond.

Correction!

Beth Daniel was suppose to join our class on Tuesday, not TODAY, however since the cold temperatures kept us all home, Beth will be spending Thursday afternoon with our class!

Sorry about the confusion!
