Thank you all for the well wishes regarding the announcement of my pregnancy. Patrick and I are excited and our 2 1/2 year old son, Adrian is very intrigued that his baby brother is in Mama's belly!
Highlights of the Week
We began CHAPTER TWO in Math in Focus! This chapter focuses on multiplication and division. Students will use their understanding of the partial product method of solving multiplications problems, as they begin to move towards the shorter US algorithm ( the one we all were taught!!!)
Students did a wonderful job writing their final Regarding the Fountain paragraph reflection. They were asked to respond to one of the themes or message of the book (generosity, creativity, friendship or acceptance). This writing exercise required them to use examples from the book to support their thinking, as well as conclude with their own ideas of why their chosen theme is important in their own lives. We worked to write concise and strong topic sentences, include clear and accurate text examples and finish the paragraph with a powerful concluding sentences.
In science we looked more closely at heat energy and how heat is transferred from one object to another. Students were excellent date collectors as they watched the temperatures change when placing a bag of hot water into a bucket of ice water.
We have begun reading our Storyworks magazines, which features both non-fiction and fiction stories Storyworks is an excellent resource for deepening reading comprehension, as well as building important expository writing skills. We will be working with Storyworks throughout the year.
