Wrapping Up September

We had a great week in fifth grade. Students worked HARD preparing for their first chapter test in math. Their scores show their hard work and mastery of the concepts taught. We ended the week with large number subtraction review. Next week  we will begin Chapter 2, which focuses on Whole Number Multiplication and Division.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD AS THEY PRACTICE THEIR MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS AT HOME. THIS UNDERSTANDING IS VITAL FOR THEIR SUCCESS. WE WILL HAVE OUR THIRD FACT CHECK NEXT THURSDAY.

We are continuing our study of energy. This week we deepened discussion of energy transfers and introduced the idea of machines. We made propeller boats and had a little friendly competition with a boat race!
We are nearing the end of our novel, Regarding the Fountain. It was been so much fun to see your student's not only enjoy this fun and silly book, but to see them work on their reading comprehension skills, as they read closely looking for clues to help solve the mystery, as well as discerning underlying meaning in what they read. They wrote wonderful letters to the books fountain designer, Florence Waters, working on expressing ideas clearly, following assignment criteria, as well as correct sentence and paragraph structure. The letters were very fun to read!

PLEASE look carefully through your child's Friday Folder, there are lots of goodies in there. PLEASE confirm your fall and spring conference times and send the bottom portion of the form back to school with your child ASAP! You will also see your child's chapter one math test!

Enjoy this beautiful early fall weather!
