TEAM WORK

Swim Week Next Week
We'll be off-campus from 1: 15 until approximately 3:00 each day.

This Week
The students worked so hard to create, revise, and polish writing piece about how we can learn from challenges or hardships in our lives. We finished ratios, took a chapter assessment and began to work on decimal concepts and skills. Students are also working to understand and appreciate global citizens and how they alike and different from us. In the process, we are also appreciating and emphasizing how we are each the same as, and different from, each other.

What to Expect When Students Return from Spring Break
The first week back is our time to learn about and practice some of the new routines we'll be following once rehearsals begin (the second week). We'll also finish up the decimals unit and begin the one on multiplying and dividing decimals. It's a really important week! I really enjoy the change of routine the play affords fifth grade, but it does require the planning and implementation! I'll send a thorough post detailing play rehearsal weeks, especially the week we move our show over to the other campus once we return from break.

The Play
In preparation for the play casting announcement which will happen on TUESDAY, we will be talking about the below ideas.

  • What ever part you get is a good part for you – TRUST Ms. Hechter
  • Be flexible and open-minded
  • It’s okay to be disappointed
  • You have the power to make “your” play experience (you can control you)
  • Be humble
  • Don’t gossip about the roles other people get
Parents can help their student who may feel disappointed by emphasizing:
·      Each role has opportunity to shine!
·      Each role is part of the whole story and important in creating the world of the play!
·      Each role includes singing and dancing, actions and reactions, featured ‘business’ that is not written down in the script because we’ll invent much of that during rehearsals!
·      Each actor also plays in the orchestra pit and has musical responsibilities in addition to their onstage work.
·      Each actor helps to create their character.
·      Each student should go into rehearsals trusting that the adults working on the play do their best to create a successful and fun experience for all!

Have a lovely vacation! I wish you health and happiness and some special times with your children during Spring Break. My husband and I will be traveling to Miami WITHOUT OUR SONS!!! We are excited to enjoy the beach, warm weather and explore Miami. We are lucky grandma from Wisconsin was eager and willing to spend a few days with her grandsons!
