Keep Calm........It's Almost Winter Break

Things are going well in fifth grade, we had a great week, however, winter break excitement is surely setting in!

This week students took TWO tests, the chapter three assessment in math and the government chapter wrap up in Social Studies. They were rockstars, working hard to prepare. The chapter three math test will be going home this week in Friday Folders. You will see two scores, one before corrections and the next after corrections. I think the chance to go back and fix previous mistakes is a valuable learning experience for students.

December Reading Logs are Due on 12/19.  Students were asked to read a minimum of 300 pages, rather than 400 due to the short month.

When we return from winter break we will be starting our Human Body-Bones and Muscles science unit as well as a round of diversity book clubs. Our drama schedule will also begin, students will have an hour of Drama in half groups each week. This is an exciting time as year!

Check out the wonderful spanish website that has just launched.

Important Announcement About Next Week

Friday, December 19 is our annual fifth grade "Sleeping Bag Day." We will watch a movie, get cozy in our pajamas and enjoy a festive snack and gift (provided by me).

Students have the option to bring:

  • a sleeping bag or blanket ( no pillows, please)
  • slippers
  • a flashlight

  • Lastly, I hope you and your families enjoy a wonderful winter break. I feel very lucky to be apart of your children's lives each day.
